The Theory & Driving Test

So, you want to take your driving test. The big question is "are you ready to pass"? No doubt that the driving test can be pretty scarey and nerve racking for some people and we've all heard horror stories about Driving Examiners. However, with DCJ Driver Training I will ensure that you know exactly what is required and will let you know when I think you're ready to take your driving test.

Brakes should not feel spongy or slack. Brakes should be tested as you set off. Vehicle should not pull to one side.
Manufacturer’s guide, use a reliable pressure gauge, check and adjust pressures when tyres are cold, don’t forget spare tyre, remember to refit valve caps.
The head restraint should be adjusted so the rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the eye or top of the ears, and as close to the back of the head as is comfortable. Note: Some restraints might not be adjustable.

You must have a provisional license to book and take your theory test. There are two parts to the test, a multiple choice section and a hazard awareness section.
  • hazard perception test
    The Hazard Perception Test
The hazard perception test consists of 14 video clips. Each clip will contain one developing hazard. One of the clips will have two developing hazards.

To pass the driving test you've got to show that you can drive safely in different road and traffic conditions, also show that you know the Highway Code in practise.

    The Theory Test
Before you take a driving test, first you've got to pass the theory test. You can take this test at a local test centre near you. The theory test has two sections to it, these are called the theory and the hazard perception. You've got to pass both sections.

Your first test to take is the theory and once you've finished this you'll have a short break and then take the second part, the hazard perception. There's 14 videos and each video you'll have to spot a hazard.

All you have to do here is click the mouse button once you think that you've seen a hazard. Just watch the videos here to find more info. We will also guide you and give you all the advice you need for the tests.

  • The DVSA hazard perception test
    The Hazard Perception Test
On the day of your theory test, you'll be shown a video which explains what to do. After this, the videos start playing and you'll have to spot when a hazard is developing. Be careful though as there is one of the videos that have two developing hazards in them. You could drop points if you click too early or too late. The trick is to click at just the right time when you see it.

What's a hazard? If you can understand just exactly what a hazard is then this put you in good stead for your driving lessons but it will also help you to pass your theory and hazard perception test too. In a nutshell, a hazard is something that has the potential to cause you to either change your speed, positiong or direction. It can be all of these or it can be just one of these on its own.

I often get asked how many hours does it to take to learn to drive and pass the driving test. It's almost impossible fo rme to answer this question as some people learn quicker that others. You know what's it's like when you can do something that somebody else can't or you pick things up quicker than someone else you know. Well learning to drive is exactly the same. We all learn at different speeds. So, now you know why I say that it all depends when I get asked that type of questions. There's also different factors too to take into consideration, such as how often are you taking your lessons and for how long?

Is every driving school the same?
Some but not all driving school offer deals and big discounts for driving lessons. Now, there's nothing wrong with doing this but you've got to ask yourself why. I'm sure you've heard of the saying that if you want to pay peanuts then you'll get a monkey. Also, what is the quality of instruction that you're receiving like? It could be the case that although you're paying much less you could end up needing more lessons?

Some people don't realise that there's a big difference between different driving schools in Rochester and why? There's also different types of driving instructors in Rochester, some driving instructors are in training and these are called a PDI, a driving instructor who is fully qualified is called an ADI. Also, depending on your driving instructor can depend on what your driving lessons in Rochester consist of and how they are structured. Click on the above links to find out more.
