The Theory & Driving Test

So, you want to take your driving test. The big question is "are you ready to pass"? No doubt that the driving test can be pretty scarey and nerve racking for some people and we've all heard horror stories about Driving Examiners. However, with DCJ Driver Training I will ensure that you know exactly what is required and will let you know when I think you're ready to take your driving test.

Brakes should not feel spongy or slack. Brakes should be tested as you set off. Vehicle should not pull to one side.
Manufacturer’s guide, use a reliable pressure gauge, check and adjust pressures when tyres are cold, don’t forget spare tyre, remember to refit valve caps.
The head restraint should be adjusted so the rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the eye or top of the ears, and as close to the back of the head as is comfortable. Note: Some restraints might not be adjustable.

You must have a provisional license to book and take your theory test. There are two parts to the test, a multiple choice section and a hazard awareness section.
  • hazard perception test
    The Hazard Perception Test
The hazard perception test consists of 14 video clips. Each clip will contain one developing hazard. One of the clips will have two developing hazards.

To pass the driving test you've got to show that you can drive safely in different road and traffic conditions, also show that you know the Highway Code in practise.

    The Theory Test
Before you can take or even apply for your driving test, all provisional license holders need to take and pass the Theory and Hazard Perception test. You can take your theory test from the day of your 17th Birthday. You must pass both parts to pass.

The first test is the theory test which is all multiple choice, and the second part is the hazard perception test where you will see 14 video clips with each clip containing a hazard (one clip has two hazards).

You must click on the screen when you think you see the hazard developing. Please watch both videos to find out more about your theory test. We will also guide you and give you all the advice you need for the tests.

  • The DVSA hazard perception test
    The Hazard Perception Test
Before you take the hazard perception test, you will be shown a short video about how it works. You will then be played 14 video clips. The clips feature everyday road scenes and in each clip there will be at least one developing hazard, one of the clips contain two developing hazards. Your job is to click on the screen when you think you see a hazard developing.

A hazard is something that would involve you take action, like changing speed or direction. As an example, A car is parked at the side of the road and isn’t doing anything. It wouldn’t cause you to take action, so it’s not a developing hazard. When you get closer, the car’s right-hand indicator starts to flash and it starts to move away. You’d need to slow down, so it’s now a developing hazard.

So, you want to take your driving test. The big question is "are you ready to pass"? No doubt that the driving test can be pretty scarey and nerve racking for some people and we've all heard horror stories about Driving Examiners. However, with DCJ Driver Training, your driving instructor will ensure that you know exactly what is required and will let you know when they think that you're ready for your test.

Yes, some people fail their driving test, this could possibly be due to nerves on the day or maybe you just haven't reached the required standard yet. But with Amanda's excellent tuition and her knowledge, she will ensure that you are fully prepared for your driving test and that you know exactly what happens on the day. Watch this video to find out more.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency recommends around 50 to 65 hours of tuition, some schools will give you this amount regardless of whether or not you need them! BUT I DON'T. If you are quick to learn, I will get you to test standard and beyond as quickly and professionally as I can, I have teaching programs to suit everyone. Fundamentally learning to drive should be a pleasurable experience and not something you should dread, choosing the right driving school and driving instructor is very important and I feel that I can offer the complete learning experience and thus ensuring that you "Learn with a Smile".

Are all driving Schools the same?
Many driving schools cut corners in order to offer cheap driving lessons which actually end up costing their pupils more, as they need more lessons to reach test standard. My aim is to offer excellent value for money while getting each learner through their driving test in the shortest possible time. A priority is ensuring that my pupils have the necessary skills required to drive safely on UK roads.
